My Services
What I do….
- Stay with you throughout the labor and delivery–until you tell me to go home:)
- Keep you informed of what is happening to you, what the various procedures may be, and the advantages and disadvantages to medical decisions you might have to make.
- Suggest comfortable labor positions. There are many to choose from so we will experiment and I will help you find the best position that helps you manage your contractions.
- Massage (with or without your choice of scented oils–some favorites are spearmint, almond oil, and teatree. You let me know when you hire me and I will have it on hand.
- Guide your partner in loving ways to support you…
- Inform your partner of what is happening if things are unclear to him….
- Get you ice water and make sure you stay hydrated so that your uterus functions at its best.
- Encourage you and remind you that you can do it…and you ARE doing it!
- Breathe with you or remind you of beneficial ways to breath for your specific stage of labor…
- Help you facilitate which visitors you wish to have in the room and at which times…
- Apply counter-pressure so that your contractions are less painful…
- Apply Heat or Ice packs
- Take pictures or video
- Relieve your partner so that he can eat a meal in the cafeteria or sleep for a few hours and you are not left alone. (Fathers love this aspect, as some labors last as long as 24 hours)
- Help establish secure breastfeeding
- Help with breastfeeding questions after the baby is born and you are at home.
- Provide referrals in areas such as chiropractics, pre-natal massage, acupuncture, baby development, birth services, etc.
What I don’t do…
- Give medical advice.
- Make decisions for you or voice your decisions to the staff. However, I will share my knowledge so that you and your partner can make a more informed decisions during labor. I will also be your advocate to make sure that you are receiving the treatment you decided upon.
- Give medical treatment—such as, giving vaginal exams, taking blood pressure, etc.
